Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups of milk (or a non-dairy alternative such as almond milk or coconut milk for additional flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar (or adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings: whipped cream, marshmallows, or chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. Heat the Milk: In a small saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk until it’s steaming, but not boiling.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a separate small bowl, mix the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
  3. Combine: Add the dry mixture to the heated milk, whisking continuously to avoid lumps and ensure the cocoa and sugar dissolve completely.
  4. Add Vanilla: Once everything is mixed and warm, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Serve: Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or chocolate shavings if desired.
